Waiting for Godot
2006
POPOK, Theatre Design, deSingel, Antwerp
Samuel Becket
During the performance, four wooden panels, each divided into two parts, gradually move in opposite directions, creating an opening in the middle. As they do so, an abstract shape begins to take shape and expand, evoking the image of a tree, or even a transition from a whole to a cloud to a tree. The top of the tree’s outline remains open, creating a vertical sense of space, suggesting an anticipated arrival that never happens.
