Have a Nap in the Camp

wood and plastic, 4 m x 5.8 m x +- 1.77 m
The existing space evokes a sense of enclosure, resembling a bunker with no windows to the outside world. Only a single window allows some light in, and even that is partially covered by a tent-like structure. Within this shielded environment, visitors are protected from the gaze of others. The hidden light that beckons can only be approached from the sides of the structure, never directly. Inspired by the concept of the context in which it is situated, this autonomous construction is deliberately designed to serve as a soccle-like base for the paintings in the overlong surrounding space.
Offering glimpses into resonant worlds within the viewer, the paintings function as windows. The accompanying video, entitled ‘Playground’, shows two girls happily hammering nails into a felled tree trunk. In this sheltered place, they embody a carefree spirit, similar to the ducks that find contentment within the confines of a bush. Hence the title ‘Remaining Within the Perimeter’. But do we not long for more?
